CARRY ON BELONGING

2012

Canada’s entry into the 13th International Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy was Migrating Landscapes, curated by Winnipeg-based 5468796 Architecture. Migrating Landscapes posed questions about contemporary architecture as it is practiced cross-culturally and negotiated across political and social borders.

The Loose Affiliates’ – Katy Young, Olena Chyntra, Philipp Dittus and Alana Green- exhibited entry, Carry On Belonging, reflected the practice of architecture as experienced by young practitioners caught in the flux of continuous migration.

PROJECT– We live in the flux of continuous migration. Every time we move, we curate our belongings, selecting to bring with us only those items that mean the most. Wherever we move to, we unpack our lives and organize our possessions into different configurations. These possessions are our home. With them, we carry on belonging, wherever in the world we are.
